Cosy Canines: Choosing a Bed For Your Dog Disclaimer

Your dog may like to curl up in the garden on a sunny day or stretch out on the verandah or patio but, just as you would prefer the comfort of your own bed, spare a thought for your poor pooch. Wouldn’t he like his own bed, too?

Some owners like to place their dog’s bed in a special place in the house where he or she can be close to the family, without being in the way. Most dogs can be trained to stay in their designated area on their bed, instead of on the couch or the middle of your bed! Others have several beds located in different parts of the house so their dog can have a choice. Even if your dog spends most of its time outside, a nice comfy bed in its kennel or sheltered place will be much appreciated.

Types of beds   Top
There are a variety of beds available in many different styles, colours, fabrics and materials. Different beds are suitable for different types of dogs and situations. There are so many to choose from that you are sure to find one that suits your dog down to the ground!

Cushions and pillows   Top
Cushions and pillows are the most common types of beds. They come in many shapes and sizes to suit the smallest and largest of dogs, and in many colours and patterns. The most important features to look for are machine-washable products that have removable covers in a heavy-weight and flea resistant fabric. Fillings can be variable, from foam to new fibres that have better conforming abilities, and can be encased in a removable inner liner so the stuffing is not loose.

Futons   Top
Futon mattresses are less bulky and are ideal for the car, inside the house or kennel, taking on holidays or placed on raised dog beds. Some have wool fillings that also mean they are warm in winter and cool in summer, and keep fleas at bay.

Foam beds   Top
Foam cuddlers or beds are made from material covered foam that forms a warm and cosy support around the dog. Some are in the shape of a ‘cubbie’, just like a miniature kennel, that make ideal indoor homes for small dogs and are available in a range of stylish and eye-catching fabrics. Perfect to crawl inside and curl up in!

The Snooza Buddy bed has a high wall so it is cosy and draught-free as well as being made from non-rigid foam so your dog can flop his neck over the side in comfort! The walls surround a removable reversible cushion that is fluffy, and comfortable enough to sleep on its own.

Snooza Snugglers are a thick foam bed with a blanket attached to the cover so your dog can snuggle onto and into its own bed, while Snooza Cuddlers are donut-shaped havens of warmth, comfort, and softness - perfect for total relaxation.

Dog beds   Top
Raised dog beds made from steel frames with an open-weave, outdoor fabric cover are ideal for outdoor beds, being waterproof and easy to clean. Some have a tough, rot-resistant and 'flea free' cover that can be replaced, and the rustproof frames are easy to assemble for transporting and traveling. Mock 'flea free' lambswool covers are also available, and for that extra snuggle factor you can even put a Pet Futon on top!
